Blessed be this Bookstore: Goodlight in Alajuela
What a great outing today: to a bookstore in Alajuela, the terrific Goodlight Books,
which like a Christmas pudding is chunk full of delicious books, history and biographies and real literature
and a marvelous assortment of cookbooks...
oh glory, I love that store!
Larry, a transplant from Northern California, is warm and friendly and pleasant to talk to.
His good cat lounged above his computer... she reads True life crime, where the mouse did it...
to top it off, if browsing among really desirable books and not mere bodice rippers weren´t enough...
Larry serves up what for me was the best cappuchino I have had in Costa Rica, full of caffeine and rich
dark coffee and just a whiff of froth... full of sound and fury and signifying everything...
hey, but I just came from Faulkner.
His biscotti were little lunas of amapola seed and orange...
they broke off into the dark coffe like icebergs going over into the Arctic seas...
delicious and perfect biscotti... the brownie was so rich it turned to liquid so I licked it.
Discreetly, when nobody was looking.
You can trade in books here, pet the cat, eat a cookie, chat with affable and intelligent Larry...
and have a great time.
Oh glory, only 20 minutes from Escazú, and I wallowed in books and so can you...
(100 meters South 70 meters East of Alajuela Post Office, or find Jalapeños and it is not far from there,
East or West, I haven´t a clue).
OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK for libroaddicts.
